Understanding crime and the minds behind it is essential for keeping communities safe. The Diploma in Criminology & Profiling Level 5 equips learners with advanced knowledge of criminology, criminal psychology, and profiling techniques. By the end of this course, learners will be able to analyse crimes, understand offenders’ behaviours, and contribute effectively to investigative processes. On average, professionals in criminology and criminal profiling roles in the UK earn around £17–£25 per hour, which is approximately £35,000–£52,000 per year.
This course begins with an Introduction to Criminology and Profiling (Module 1), giving learners a foundational understanding of crime and profiling methods. Classification of Crime (Module 2) examines different crime types, followed by Violent Crimes (Module 3), exploring motives and patterns. The Crime Scene (Module 4) focuses on investigation methods, and Dealing with Crime (Module 5) covers law enforcement procedures. Understanding Criminal Psychology (Module 6) and Forensic Science (Module 7) provide insight into the offender’s mind and evidence analysis. Modules 8–10, Phases of Profiling, Criminal Profiling: Science, Logic and Metacognition, and Offender Profiling: Pragmatic Solution and Behavioural Investigative Advice, guide learners in creating actionable profiles. Victimology (Module 11) highlights victim impact, while The Criminal Justice System in England and Wales (Module 12) ensures learners understand legal frameworks.
Module one provides an overview of criminology and profiling. Here, we’ll learn about the definition and causes of crimes.
In module two, we’ll have an overview of the classification of crimes. We’ll learn about personal crimes, property crimes, inchoate crimes and many more.
In module three, we’ll broaden our understanding of different types of crime by exploring violent crimes, such as assault, murder and sexual assault.
Module four focuses on the crime scene. It covers the processing and preservation of crime scenes as well as the mistakes to avoid in crime scenes.
Module five discusses how to deal with crimes. It focuses on interviewing, testimony and detection of deception while enquiring a crime.
In module six, we’ll understand criminal psychology. We’ll learn about the motives behind crimes and crime psychology research.
In module seven, we’ll explore the advanced aspect of criminology, which is forensic science. We’ll learn about different forensic techniques to identify crime scenes and criminals.
Module eight discusses the phases of profiling, such as examining and classification of evidence, reconstruction, examining the offender’s signature and generating a profile based on the crime scene.
In module nine, we’ll broaden our understanding of profiling by exploring more about criminal profiling such as bias, logic and metacognition.
Module ten focuses on the traditional approached of offender profiling and behavioural investigative advice.
In module eleven, we’ll learn about victims, victim right and the consequences of crimes on victims.
Module twelve covers the legal aspects of crimes. Here we’ll learn about the policing and courts of England and Wales. Also, we’ll learn about the crown prosecution service and the prisons.
