What keeps workers safe in confined spaces? This module walks you through the key control measures used in real workplaces, including ventilation systems, protective equipment, monitoring tools, and safe working procedures that help reduce risks on the job.
When emergencies happen, quick action can save lives. Here, you’ll explore emergency response planning, evacuation procedures, communication methods, and rescue awareness to better understand how workplaces prepare for confined space incidents.
Any worker entering, performing related work (attendant/rescue), or supervising work in a confined space.
Awareness: For those working near but not entering, often online, 1.5–4 hours.
Entry and Monitor: For entrants and attendants, includes hands-on rescue training, 4–8 hours.
Industry best practices recommend renewal every 2 to 3 years, or immediately if procedures, equipment, or regulations change.
While awareness training can be online, actual entry work requires in-person or simulated hands-on training to be deemed “adequate” in most Canadian jurisdictions.

A trained attendant must be posted outside to monitor workers and manage emergency responses.
