In module one, we will learn the definition of safeguarding, the importance of safeguarding, safeguarding roles and responsibilities, and child protection policies.
In module two, we will explore the UK laws and key legislation behind safeguarding children, outlining the fundamental points of each act. We will also take a look at child safeguarding policy and guidelines.
In module three, we will gain an in-depth understanding of what constitutes abuse and neglect, the different types of abuse, and how to identify the signs of a child at risk.
In module 4, we will learn about child sexual exploitation, the types of sexual abuse, the characteristics of sexual offenders, and the common patterns and signs of child sexual abuse.
In module 5, you will be guided on how to assess if a child is at risk of harm, how to recognise a high-risk situation, and will explore the steps in the single assessment process.
In module 6, we will learn about the protocol on sharing information that has been disclosed by a child, your ‘duty of care’, and how to take appropriate action when making referrals to social care services.
In module 7, you will learn how to make a referral to social services, what should be included in your referral, and what to do if you disagree with the decision made.
The final module takes a look at record-keeping procedures and policies, including which documents should be included in safeguarding records, and the policy regarding sharing information.
The 5 P’s commonly refer to: Prevention, Protection, Partnership, Proportionality, and Accountability. These guide how organisations keep children safe while acting responsibly and appropriately.
The 4 R’s are: Recognise signs of abuse, Respond appropriately, Report concerns, and Record information accurately.
Costs vary depending on the level and provider. Online safeguarding courses typically range from CAD $20 to $100, while advanced or leadership-level training may cost more.
A safeguarding training course teaches how to protect children or vulnerable individuals from abuse, neglect, and harm. It covers recognising risks, reporting concerns, legal responsibilities, and creating safe environments.
You can earn a safeguarding certificate by enrolling in an accredited course, completing the training modules, and passing the assessment. Certificates are usually issued digitally after successful completion.
The 4 C’s often refer to key online safeguarding risks: Content, Contact, Conduct, and Commerce, especially in digital safety contexts.
The four pillars generally include Prevention, Protection, Response, and Support — ensuring risks are reduced, children are protected, incidents are handled properly, and ongoing care is provided.
Show that you understand your responsibility to protect children, recognise signs of harm, follow reporting procedures, and maintain confidentiality. Employers look for awareness, calm decision-making, and knowledge of safeguarding policies.
