Learners explore different types of pests commonly found in residential, commercial, and outdoor settings. It also explains basic control methods used in modern pest management practices.
This module focuses on environmentally safe approaches to pest control. Learners understand how to reduce pest problems using non-toxic and sustainable methods. It highlights the importance of protecting human health, animals, and the environment while managing pests effectively.
This module covers pests that affect plants, crops, and gardens. Learners study common plant pests and the damage they cause to vegetation. It also explains practical methods to control and prevent infestations in agricultural and gardening settings.
This module teaches the correct use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in pest control work. Learners understand how PPE protects against chemicals, pests, and environmental hazards. It also covers safe wearing, removal, and maintenance of protective gear.
Completion of secondary school is usually required. Completion of courses in pest control or extermination or several months of on-the-job training are usually required. Provincial pesticide applicator licence is required in all provinces.
6-month certificate courses are also available at some Canadian colleges. When it comes to curriculum, short courses in Canada are job-oriented that include more training and practical aspects. Compared to degree programs, short courses are much cheaper starting from a tuition fee of just CAD 2,000/year.
